New Girl is a modern YA version of the classic book Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (which is one of my favorites). I've been hoping for some time now that an author would retell this story and when I came across this book I was excited to read it. My standards were set very high since Rebecca is a story I love and I was worried that I would be overly critical because of that and not enjoy the story. Although I felt the story could use some improvements here and there, overall I was impressed. There were many little details that really tied in to the original story so well. For example, one of the character's names is Dana Veers (a play on the original character's name, Mrs. Danvers). It took me a few chapters to really see a similarity in plot between the stories but it got there eventually and was really a great modernization of it with young adult characters.

There were only two problems I had with the story. The main issue for me was that the main character's name (the "new girl" Callie) is known and used throughout the story. In Rebecca the main character's name is unknown and the reason for that is meaningful. In New Girl I think that this should have been carried over. It could have easily been done. The only other problem I had was that the story skipped ahead so often. Sometimes months would be skipped and it just didn't feel seamless...it felt more like there were holes in the story.

The location and the characters make up for any faults I found with the story. A boarding school was the ideal location and Manderly Academy has an oppressive and slightly eerie atmosphere that is perfect for this book. Some of the characters were obvious match ups to characters in Rebecca and it was fun figuring out who was who and how their personalities compared. The main character was okay but for me it was all about the supporting characters. Dana was my favorite character in New Girl. She was obsessed, creepy, and crazy which made for some interesting reading. I loved how this story played out and I wish I could read more about the characters and what their lives are like after leaving Manderly Academy.

Years ago when I first discovered this series it instantly became one of my faves and I eagerly anticipated each books release. Every book has been amazing, but when I received Spiral and dove into the story I felt like something was missing. This story definitely has a different feel to it than the others. It wasn't bad, the story was pretty interesting actually, but it just wasn't what I had anticipated.

If you have been reading this series you will know about the Styx and their evil plans. Spiral is an in depth look at HOW they plan on executing their plan to obtain their goal. Will and his cohorts must find a way to foil the Styx's plans. The most interesting thing about the story is learning more about the Styx...their history, physiology, etc. It is all very unexpected and extremely different from any thought I have had about them. That and the fact that the story almost exclusively takes place above ground is probably the reason why the tone of the book is so different from the others.

I will still be awaiting the next book but I will be keeping my fingers crossed that the focus will switch back to underground (although I have a feeling that won't be the case). Usually I buy the UK release because it comes out much sooner than in the US, but because of the direction Spiral took I will probably just hold out for the US release. I don't think I will be quite as eager for the next installment as I typically would have been. A lot of fans of the Tunnels series will probably share a similar view of the story with me, but just as I will continue reading this series, so will they. Not a bad story, but certainly does not exceed expectations.

It has been a loooong time since I have posted and I apologize. Between the holidays and being out of town for a few weeks I just haven't really had the time (or motivation) to post. On Christmas Day in 2010 a man set the Main Library on fire causing damage to the building and 150,000 books. Almost a year later and the library is still closed for repairs. Meljean Brook has written another amazing steampunk romance/adventure! I absolutely love the Iron Seas series. The book starts off with correspondences between Archimedes Fox and his sister Zenobia. It was difficult to get into the story reading the letters but once the first chapter started I quickly found myself engrossed in what was going on.

The last time Yasmeen saw Archimedes was when she kicked him off her ship in dangerous zombie infested territory. Of course, Archimedes always comes out on top so it is no surprise that their paths cross again. This time Archimedes intends to fall in love with Yasmeen. They are thrown together on an adventure because of an extremely valuable da Vinci sketch that was stolen from them. This story has quite a bit of action in it with zombies, airships, and assassins. I really loved that history and even some politics helped to make up the meat of the story. It isn't just a frivolous romance although the romance aspect of the story was quite nice. Yasmeen is tough and definitely has no plans of ever falling in love so Archimedes does not have an easy time cracking that shell. I think respect has a lot to do with the progress of their relationship. I think the ending was satisfying but I hope to read more about them in the future to see how they are faring together. Obviously their lives will be full of adventure and it would be great to see what trouble they can get into (and out of).

Although Archimedes and Yasmeen are interesting, Zenobia is actually my favorite character in the series. I was glad that she was present in the start of the book, and of course mentioned throughout. She is terrifyingly intelligent and I hope to eventually read about the man that go head to head with her. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she will be featured in the next book. Another intriguing character is the Blacksmith. He is really only mentioned in the story but it gave a glimpse at his history. Learning about his past would be fascinating.

If you have read the previous books in the Hellions of Halstead Hall series (and you should) then you know that Hetty Sharpe, grandmother to Gabriel and his siblings, issued an ultimatum that they all be married by the end of the year or they will lose their inheritance. The meddling grandmother wants her grandchildren to find love and happiness, but they are against it...at first. 3 of Gabriel's siblings have found love so far and only he and his younger sister are left and their time is running out to meet the deadline.

Gabriel, otherwise known as the Angel of Death races. Carrying guilt over his best friend's death for many years he decides that the person he will marry is his late friend's sister, Virginia, who hates him and blames for her brother's death. Obviously, convincing her to marry him won't be very easy. Or will it? I felt like Virginia made things too easy too quickly. Don't get me wrong, there was resistance and distrust throughout the story, but it felt a little to much like once he turned on the charm she caved in to it easily. Of course, Virginia comes across as a sensible person, so her falling so easily for him could just be that she knew deep down that he wasn't the heartless and uncaring person she had imagined him to be. Virginia is a perfect match for Gabriel. She is full of spirit and daring but is able to rein in some of Gabriel's recklessness. I guess they sort of temper each other.

The investigation into the Gabriel's parent's deaths continues. Although there wasn't as much about it as I would have liked, there was enough to keep up interest in it and some new leads. I really can't wait for the next book to find out what really happened that night so many years ago. On a happier note, it seems like Gabriel isn't the only one to find a match in this book. I won't say who, but it is definitely an added treat and I hope to see the relationship unfold even more in the next book.

After reading this book I felt like this series should have ended probably a couple books ago. It feels like it is just dragging along. You would think that with everyone going to hell to rescue someone that things would be exciting and interesting, but alas that is not how it goes. I am racking my brain to find something positive about this story but I just can't think of anything I enjoyed about it. I am really shocked by that because I really loved the first 4 books in this series, but either the quality seems to have deteriorated or my taste in books has changed... I'm not sure. Many fans of the Blue Bloods series will probably still be satisfied with this newest book, but I am just not one of them. I am giving up on this series.

This story was a little confusing at times for me since it has been awhile since I have read the previous books in the series. A glossary of people and terms would have been extremely helpful. Without a glossary I just had to guess at things occasionally which made reading this book a little more like a chore than something pleasurable.

The book is sort of sectioned out in 3 parts. The beginning is about Jack and Schuyler, the middle features Mimi, Oliver, and Deming. and the end is once again about Jack and Schuyler. I found Jack and Schuyler's sections of story to be boring for the most part. They go through a daring escape among other things, yet I remained uninterested in what was going on with them. Also, the way they speak to each other can be a bit nauseating. It is overly formal and they don't sound like teenagers. Yes, I know that Jack is a Blue Blood and has lived many lives but what is Schuyler's excuse for sounding so stuffy? For awhile I was worried I wouldn't be able to make myself finish this book but thankfully the middle of the book was much more interesting.

Mimi is the Regent of the New York Coven. She is bent on seeking revenge on her brother Jack, but before she can get around to that she must deal with the kidnapping of a Blue Blood. Her position as Regent is in jeopardy and she is desperate to find out who is behind the kidnapping. She calls in help from a venator names Deming who goes undercover at the school to investigate. Deming was by far the most interesting character and I wish there was more about her in the story. Oliver actually helps Mimi out with everything that is going on. I wasn't sure how that would work out but I liked the dynamic between them that was developing.

This is probably my least favorite book in this series so far. I don't think I really like the direction things are going. It has a different feel from the other books which kind of threw me off. I am hoping that it will get better in the next book.

I knew that Silence and Charming Mickey would meet again and I have been eagerly awaiting that moment. Finally that time has come! Of all the characters introduced in this series I have come to care for Silence the most. Her life isn't a very happy one especially after Mickey disillusioned her of her husband's love and her husband goes back out to sea and dies. She is alone until a sweet little child is left on her doorstep. Silence cares for the little girl and considers her as her own child. One day the little girl is taken and she confronts Mickey to get her back since she has suspected that he is the girl's father. It turns out that his enemies have become a threat to both his daughter and Silence and he wants to keep them protected.

Silence and Mickey continually butt heads. Mickey is used to getting his way and Silence refuses to give in to his every whim.The transformation Mickey takes over the course of the story makes it impossible not to fall in love with him a little bit. He is a criminal and has done some bad things but there is more than one side to a person. Silence and Mickey's relationship develops over time and isn't instant happiness which I can appreciate. This has been my favorite in the series so far. I am used to reading trilogies when it comes to historical romance series so I just automatically assumed this was it. When I reached the end of the book (which had a shocking surprise that I LOVED) I was pleased to realize that there will be more to come.

I have read a couple of this author's time travel romances and didn't really care for them much. I really liked the idea of this book though and thought that I would give it a chance. Unfortunately, I didn't really care for this book either. There were moments that I had to set the book down and walk away from it for awhile because I was confused about how I felt and what the author's intentions were. The romance was boring and didn't interest me at all and I never really liked the main characters.

Ellery is a book critic who thinks all romance novels are drivel...even though she has never read one. She offends someone important and is forced to write about how great romance novels are. Her ex Axel is a photographer assigned to do the article with her. He picks up a few romances for her to read, one a paranormal, another a Highland romance, and the last one is a typical historical romance. Although she is a very professional writer she is surprisingly reluctant to do the research and actually read any of the books. When she does she just flips it open to random parts and occasionally skips ahead to get to the sex scenes. That really annoyed me. It is a pet peeve of mine when people skip around parts of a book. Even more bothersome is when she would just flip to the intimate scenes. I love romances but I don't think romances are about the sex. I think it is about the building of a relationship. The paranormal romance and Highland romance bit were laughable. They were so over the top and extreme, yet a self proclaimed romance hater ended up enjoying these books. What!? I found it to be confusing because I didn't know if the author meant it to be ridiculous or was she being serious. Since Ellery ended up enjoying them I felt like the author must have been serious but I just can't imagine why she would make the books seem so terrible.

As I previously said, the romance was boring. I found it predictable. Based on the synopsis I felt there was pretty good potential for excitement and an interesting romance but sadly it didn't turn out that way. Others my enjoy this book, however it just wasn't for me.

First I have to say I had no idea really what to expect from this book. I enjoyed Jason and Grant's books in which they recount investigations they have been on but I wasn't sure if they could pull off a story of total fiction. Ghost Trackers really surprised me because it turned out to be such an excellent story. Usually this isn't a genre I read because I am a wuss when it comes to spooky stories, but I am glad I read this one. Ghost Trackers is the first in a new series and I can't wait to read future installments.

Amber, Drew, and Trevor used to be friends until the night they entered the Lowry house. Since then they lost their memory of what really happened and they drifted apart. Cut to fifteen years later at their high school reunion. Strange things are happening and they decide to put together the missing pieces to figure out what happened that night so long ago. The story is kind of like a spooky mystery, which is what I really liked about it. It wasn't too over the top with the horror aspects, but there was enough scary parts to get the point across.

I really liked the characters and that they each brought something different to the table. Drew is a psychologist so he is the rational one and is able to get a lot of insight into the mental aspects; Trevor travels around collecting ghost stories to write about so he is a true believer in the paranormal already and is able to compare things that happen to other paranormal phenomena he has heard about; Amber basically has PTSD over what happened that night so long ago and is kind of a mess. Like the others she does bring a special element to their investigation into the past but it is difficult to put into words what that really is. Amber seemed to be more in the forefront of the story than the others but Trevor is my favorite of the three. I like his personality and humor and I hope that all that comes through even more in the future.

If you are looking for a typical ghost story this isn't it, but if you are willing to give it a chance you just might find that you like Ghost Trackers.

Finally it is Kate's turn for a happy ending! I have been eagerly anticipating this story since it has been obvious that Lady Kate Seaton and Captain Harry Lidge would butt heads eventually. There have been hints of bad history between the two in the previous books in the series and it has been a mystery just what the issue is. Of course that history is revealed eventually in the story and although it was interesting enough I was expecting something more from it. I do think that Kate's family (and their secrets) was the highlight of the story (other than the romance of course). It was totally unexpected.

Drake's Rakes are still trying to defend England by tracking down the Lions, which is the group trying to destroy England. Although I have thought this plot line to be interesting in the other books things really pick up speed in this book. It felt like quite a bit of progress was made toward uncovering the traitors but by no means enough to put an end to the conspiracy. I wish more of the story was dedicated to this part of the plot because I really enjoy the action and mystery aspects a lot in addition to the romance.

In typical romance novel fashion, the relationship between Harry and Kate is rocky at the start. The bad history between them causes a lot of distrust which is difficult for them to overcome, but even with these obstacles I couldn't help but feel that it still came a little to easy for them. True love conquers all I guess. Still, the story was very enjoyable and is a great addition to the series. It fits in perfectly. I can't wait for Drake's Rakes to thwart the Lions plans completely. One thing I am very curious about is who the next book is about. Up until now I have known which woman each book would be about but now I don't know...maybe Schroeder? I Think she deserves a happy ending of her own.

I can't believe the Georgina Kincaid series has come to an end...an excellent one, but an end nonetheless. I can't help but feel that there are so many possibilities for future books with the secondary characters of this series. One person in particular I am left wondering about is Kayla, Seth's 5 year old niece who has psychic abilities. I would love to read about her and how she deals with her powers as a teenager or adult. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the author isn't finished with these characters and will write about them in the future.

The book description really sums up the plot perfectly without giving to much away so I won't go into that but I will say that Georgina's story couldn't have ended better. I shed a few tears (from both happiness and sadness) and in the end was left with a sense of satisfaction at how things turned out. There were a number of unexpected twists that blew my mind which really helped this story along since there really wasn't much action in this book like there is in some of the others. I can't imagine fans of this series being unhappy with how things turned out. Like me though, everyone will most likely be left wanting more. It is always difficult to say goodbye to characters you have gotten to know and come to love over time. I know that I will be revisiting them again and again though by rereading this series and I will just have to be satisfied with that, but it won't keep me from hoping for more from this incredible author in the future.

If you enjoy the Ghost Hunters television series or just stories of hauntings in general then you will probably enjoy this book. It is actually an omnibus of 2 already released books, Ghost Hunting and Seeking Spirits, so if you haven't read them already you can get this 2 in 1 version that I find to be convenient. The lengths of each recounting of investigations vary but are generally between 2-5 pages long. With 560 pages total, that means there are A LOT of stories. Many of them I recognized from episodes of their show, however the second half of the book is filled with stories that weren't on the show, including a "lost" episode that was taped but never aired (one of my favorite stories).

I 'm a fan of Ghost Hunters and now I am a fan of their books! For the most part there is a good variety of stories including hauntings, background information on the T.A.P.S. , the crew members, and equipment and investigative techniques. There is a lot of good insight into what it takes to be a ghost hunter. I do wish that there were more hoax stories though. The lengths people go to to get on the show probably get ridiculous sometimes and would be amusing to read about. Some of the stories were short and to the point with not much happening; others are full of evidence of possession, demonic entities, human spirits, etc. Occasionally it turns out that instead of a ghost the person who contacted the guys from T.A.P.S. has a medical problem or some bad plumbing. Those stories are interesting to me because I don't get how they didn't consider that before jumping to the conclusion that there must be a supernatural explanation. As much as I am a skeptic I do have to admit that some of these stories are creepy and make me wonder if ghosts really do exist. Dark masses, moving furniture, voices that seemingly come from nowhere... if not ghosts then how could some of these things be explained?

Immediately after I finished reading The Scorpio Races I tried to describe it to someone and found that I just couldn't. This book is difficult to sum up. There were paranormal elements to it but I would hesitate to call it paranormal; there is a little bit of romance, but I definitely wouldn't call it romance. There is a bit of bleakness and desperation similar to the mood of dystopian but it can't be classified as dystopian. Although I can't categorize this book, I can definitely say that it is amazing.

The writing style of the author is very distinct. If you have read her Mercy Falls series you will definitely recognize it. But where I found it depressing and boring in her werewolf books I found it to have an almost musical or poetic quality in The Scorpio Races. It really fit well with the content and the atmosphere. Although I am not really a fan of the author's previous series I found myself intrigued by the very vague description of the book. I wanted to know what the Scorpio Races are. I am not a horse person. I don't like horse books and I don't like horse movies. You would think because of that I would have been deterred from reading this book, but no, I HAD to know what the Scorpio Races are. I am so very glad I gave this book a try. I wasn't sure what to expect but it blew me away. I've read a lot of books and I can honestly say that this book is now in the top 5 best books I have ever read in ANY genre. When I finished reading the book I was so excited about what I had just read. I also am so glad that this is a stand alone. It does not need a follow up. It is perfect the way it is.

I don't want to really write about what happens in the story because I think the vagueness of the book description helped me to enjoy the story. Basically, I liked that the whole plot wasn't given on the back of the book. I do however want to address the romance part of the story. Yes, this is a YA book and yes there is a romance. It isn't annoying though (something I find a lot of YA romances to be). The story's focus isn't really on that. In my opinion it is kind of in the background.

Who would this book be perfect for? I don't know. Everyone? This story can't be defined or categorized. Teenagers, adults, male, female...it doesn't really matter because this is something so many people will enjoy. Hopefully, most will read it and walk away with the same feelings as I did.

Let me start by saying that although I can understand the appeal this book will probably have for many people, it just wasn't for me. I was expecting something a little more unique but it pretty much followed the typical formula for YA. The instant love and devotion between Megan and Adam is what soured me the most on this book. I understand that there is some inexplicable connection between them but I feel like it was just a little too easy and convenient. The only thing that kept me from quitting the book was that at least there wasn't the standard love triangle in addition to the instant love thing. Since the author didn't throw that in there too I figured I should give it a chance.

I had a difficult time connecting with the characters. I didn't dislike them but I also didn't really care about what happened to them. Adam's brother was the most interesting character to me. His power is the most volatile so he has to really stay in control. An issue that I have with him though is that he starts off stand-offish and not easily trusting but then does a 180 and is extremely nice to Megan. I think the sudden change was too drastic and would have been much more believable had she earned his grudging respect or trust over the course of the story. Overall, I think the problem I had with the story was that everything happened so quickly and easily...not enough distrust and disbelief.

Many people who enjoy paranormal YA will probably enjoy this book. I'm feeling a bit burnt out on this type of story at the moment because it is beginning to feel stale and easily predictable. That has most likely colored my opinion of this book some. It is what it is though and at the moment I am just not into this story. I haven't written this series totally off though, and would read the second book in the series when it releases to give it another chance.

As expected this book was is an excellent addition to the Lords of the Underworld series that I love. Book number 8 and still going strong. I'm sure it can be a difficult task for an author to keep a series fresh and exciting for so long but Gena Showalter has not disappointed.

This is Strider's story, and his union with Kaia feels long in the making. When the Skyhawk harpy sisters were introduced to this series I was instantly enthralled. They are spitfires and fun to read about. Kaia has been the most interesting to me so I was glad to finally read her story. Strider wasn't one of the Lords I was absolutely dying to read right away until I got a taste of what was to come in the last book, The Darkest Lie. His story is now one of my favorites.

Kaia has had a thing for Strider for awhile but he has been pushing her away because right before they met she had slept with Paris and he didn't want to be compared to him in bed. Strider's demon is Defeat, so if he can't pleasure Kaia more than Paris did then he will feel excruciating pain for not "winning." Obviously this sets up a major roadblock for any kind of relationship for them. Not to mention trust doesn't really come easily for either of them. However, when the Harpy Games are resurrected and Kaia is in danger Strider is there for her. They face a lot of conflict, but it is those types of situations that seem to bring the Lords and their women together. The brutally violent Harpy Games makes for a thrilling setting. Harpies are fierce and value that ferocity and strength greatly which was something I already knew but was reinforced by reading about the games. I hope to read about more of the harpies in future installments of the series.

For those of you who read the first book in the Belador series, Blood Trinity, you will not be disappointed. The story picks up where the last one left off so just to be sure I didn't miss out on anything I reread Blood Trinity right before I started Alterant...a wise decision in my opinion as so much that happens in this story is related to what happened prior. I probably would've been a little lost had I not refreshed my memory.

I really enjoyed the direction the story took with Evalle basically trying to defend her race and prove that they aren't just a bunch of animals. The gods have charged her with the task of bringing in Alterants. She is in a race against time to save herself and others like her. The identity of the person who Evalle has to seek help from shouldn't have surprised me but it did. I'm glad that I was able to see another side to this person who I really didn't like in the first book.

While Evalle is handling her business, Quinn and Tzader have to deal with their own problems...many of them involving the opposite sex. I felt like I missed them in this story.They definitely had their roles to play but it felt more like they were in the background. In the end I am worried for them both as their issues are not really resolved yet. Hopefully everything will work out for them in the next book.

Storm is present in the story which made me very happy. He is so mysterious and not much is really known about him. Thankfully, some of his past is revealed so we can get a better understanding of him and his motives. Although this isn't a romance novel (which I am totally fine with), I still can't help but want a little bit of romance thrown into the mix. Watching what unfolds between him and Evalle reveals even more about Storm's character. He is caring, gentle, and very aware yet at the same time he strong, hard, and dangerous.

I picked this couple because their relationship grew out of respect and not instant attraction based on looks. There was a realness to it. They are smart, strong, and brave as individuals and even more so together. This couple is absolutely one of my favorites.

As for my "casting" choices I think that Saoirse Ronan is almost exactly how I pictured Tris in my mind. Logan Lerman doesn't have quite enough of a tough edge but I think that could be taken care of with hitting the gym to muscle up a little. Other than that I think he would be great.

Finally it is Gregori's turn for love! He has been in just about every book in the Love at Stake series and I have been eagerly awaiting his story for what seems like forever now. What I find intriguing about Gregori is that he isn't a warrior like most of the other men, he has this playboy image but you can tell there is more to him than that, and he has never bitten someone before. Actually, the fact that he has always been "bottle fed" and never bitten someone is one of the reasons he is chosen to negotiate with the President of the United States. After Corky released the video of Casimir being beheaded, the vampires are scrambling to cover it up and have it declared a hoax by the government. To do this they have to let the President in on the secret that there are actual vampires out there and convince him to side with them.

As part of the negotiations, Gregori is given an assignment by the President. If he completes it then the vampire video will be declared a hoax. Of course there is a woman involved and let me just say it is pretty surprising. I really enjoyed the development of the relationship and the hurdles they have to overcome keep things interesting. As far as action goes I would say it is lacking just a bit. It definitely has a different feel than the other books in the series where it felt like there was a constant threat, but there IS an enemy to face so that element of danger wasn't totally lacking.

This book shows a new side to Gregori. We get an in depth look at how he feels about his life and how people perceive him. As for his love match I think she is perfect for him. They have a lot in common and the connection between them is believable. I can't get enough of this series! I've yet to be disappointed and I can't imagine I ever will. Kerrelyn Sparks really knows how to write a juicy vamp love story.

In my honest opinion this book is one of the best YA releases of 2011. I was absolutely shocked at how much I ended up loving this story. I tend to be a bit of a wuss and this sounded pretty spooky to me (and trust me, it is) but I was so captivated that I couldn't have stopped reading it even if I wanted to. I was hooked and loved every minute of it.

Each character stood out and brought something special to the table. Cas is a ghost hunter who travels around with his mom to places with homicidal ghosts that he dispatches to...wherever. He is an interesting and unusual boy with a lot of weight on his shoulders. What really sucked me in was that I felt like I was in the story and that I was Cas. I was personally invested in what happened and for me that is what makes a book truly great. If I can forget that I am reading a book and think that the story is mine then the author has accomplished something wonderful.

Anna was even more than what I thought. I didn't realize she would be much of a real character. I assumed she would be this mindless ghost that kills and that would be that. Could I have been more wrong? She is a character that evolves ans has more sides to her than expected. Don't get me wrong though, she is one super scary ghost and pretty gruesome too.

The entire time I was reading this book I kept thinking "please let this be the start of a series," over and over. I checked that author's blog and apparently my wish was granted (YAY!). It will be called Girl of Nightmares.

The Charlie Madigan series is urban fantasy at its best. The Hour of Dust and Ashes is book three in this series and is as action packed as the first two. Detective Charlie Madigan is in a race to save her sister's life and put a stop to an evil force. In order to do this Charlie has to face death in many ways.

At the detective's side is her siren partner, Hank. The chemistry between the two is off the charts, but what is really special between them is their loyalty to each other. They have each others backs, not just as part of their jobs as detectives but as friends. I like the pace that things are developing between them. The story isn't all about the romance (since this isn't a paranormal romance, it is an urban fantasy) and that sort of makes the romance that IS in it all the better. It isn't some insta-love, insta-fix, insta-perfect type of thing. It is developing more realistically...well, as realistically as things could be in Charlie's world. Hank's past is a bit of a mystery but the author delves into some of his background to set up the storyline for the next book. I love where the story is going and I can already tell there will be tons of action.

My favorite things about this book is the butt-kicking action, the sparks flying between Hank and Charlie, and Rex. Rex has become my favorite character now that he knows his past life as a jinn warrior. One moment he is fierce and the next he is acting like a goof. Definitely an entertaining guy. I really hope that he plays an even bigger part in the next book. It would be really cool as well to learn more about his life when he was a jinn.

This was an excellent read and the series continues to be one of my favorites. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be many more Charlie Madigan books to come. Not only are the characters amazing but the world and the changes to it are fascinating. If you love urban fantasy I highly recommend this series if you haven't started it yet.

OH.MY.GOSH....this is absolutely the best book in the Alien Huntress series. If you read the last book in the series (and you should) then you have already met Noelle Tremain. She is besties with Ava who was the focus of the story in book #5. The story starts off with Ava and Noelle entering AIR Training Camp where they meet one of the instructors, AIR agent Hector Dean. He is all muscles, tattoos, and attitude. Oh, and he has a secret...his arms are weapons. Their attraction is instant but of course nothing is easy. They have a lot of differences and Hectors secret puts a wide chasm between the two of them. Later they are partnered on a case and sparks fly but not without some damage first.

I LOVED the characters. Noelle may be rich and pretty but there is more to her than that and she definitely keeps you on your toes. She is unpredictable and fun. Hector makes a great leading man. For being such a big, gruff, scary looking guy he is actually rather adorable. His past is pretty rough and it is interesting to find out what made him into the man he became. One character I can't wait to read more of is Dallas. I've been anxiously awaiting his story for some time now and the bits in this story he was in only whet my appetite for more.

When I finished this book (in one sitting because I couldn't put it down) I was so sad that it was done. I could have kept reading more and more. If you have read and enjoyed this series so far you won't be disappointed in this that is for sure. If you are new to the series I suggest reading it in order so you don't miss out on anything. I just have to say as well that the cover of this book is gorgeous. It's one of my favorite Gena Showalter covers (of all her series).

It's official...I am in love with this series! This book left me with a genuinely good feeling when I finished it. Jamie really carries this series and gives it life with his charming personality. He is treated like an irresponsible kid by his older brother Eric, and even his little sister Tessa is guilty of having low expectations of him. Jamie wants more responsibility and to be more involved at the brewery but his siblings prejudice against him is preventing them from seeing past that to the person he has become.

Olivia is a nice but reserved and slightly uptight woman. She meets the gregarious Jamie when she attends a book club meeting at the brewery he is co-owner of with his siblings. She's definitely attracted to him but knows that a good-looking, outgoing man like Jamie would only be trouble. Their paths collide later unexpectedly and things get heated and interesting. They really learn a lot from each other and come into their own. The changes they make to their lives made me respect their characters and I feel that they are a perfect balance for each other. Definitely an unexpected pairing but all the better for it.

Contemporary romance is a genre I don't read too often but when I find an author I enjoy I stick with them. Well, after reading this book Victoria Dahl has a new fan...ME! I devoured this book in one day because I couldn't tear myself away from it. The best part is that this is part of a series so i get to continue reading about the Donovan siblings.

Tessa and her two older brothers run a brewery together. There is a break-in and Luke is one of the detectives on the case. Tessa is drawn to Luke but the detective's life is complicated and Tessa's brothers are a "tad" overprotective when it comes to their little sister. With a failed marriage and a partner who is rumored to be pregnant with his baby, Luke's reputation isn't exactly stellar. However, things aren't always what they seem and Tessa really goes out on a limb to look past the gossip and find out Luke's side of the story.

Tessa feels her family is slipping away from each other and the break-in seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back. Eric, the oldest (and of course most responsible) holds Jamie (the irresponsible middle child) to blame for the break-in at the brewery. Tessa is stuck as referee between the two and tries to keep things from falling apart. She doesn't necessarily go about things the right way which leads to more stress and tension.

I loved the characters in this book which bodes well for this being an awesome series. Although I enjoyed reading about Tessa I actually found the Donovan brothers most interesting and this book just whet my appetite for them. I'm curious to see how (or if) the dynamic between the siblings changes over the course of the series. I am rooting for their happiness.

What first attracted me to this book was the great cover (yeah, I'm a sucker for pretty book covers) and that in the description it suggests that fans of the Pretty Little Liars book series by Sara Shepard would enjoy it. After reading this book though I don't see how being a fan of that series would have anything to do with this book. In my opinion there is no resemblance between them other than characters lying about things. I was very disappointed in this book. The storyline was just too over the top (and not in a good way) and other than Agnes I didn't find the characters interesting. I wasn't able to connect with any of them. I constantly questioned why Sarah didn't walk away from her friendship when she constantly had reason to. It didn't make sense how even though she knew certain things she still allowed herself to be manipulated and believed lies told by a known liar. At times it felt like the author was grasping at straws to explain certain character's behaviors. Don't even get me started on the ending. I was holding out hope that maybe the ending would redeem the rest of the book when in fact it turns out that it was the biggest let down of them all. It wrapped up quickly and not that interestingly.

Young Adult books with a mythology theme is one of my favorite things to read and Tera Lynn Childs is a master at it. I was blown away by Sweet Venom. The mythology in this book is Greek and focuses on descendants of Medusa. The story is filled with monsters, prophecy, and cute boys.

Gretchen, Grace, and Greer are triplets. They only recently discovered this though so it was a shock for them (in addition to Grace and Greer finding out that they are descendants of Medusa). Gretchen was mentored and taught how to fight the monsters that would try to sneak into this world. She is the tough girl type who is used to doing things on her own. Grace is so unlike Gretchen. She is shy, meek, and kind of a computer geek. She comes off as a genuinely nice person. Finally, Greer is a rich girl who is a bit of a snob. She is all about perfection and having a full social calendar. All three girls were adopted into very different families and it shows in their personalities.

There are some guys in this book that are very interesting and will most likely play a big part later in the series. Thane is Grace's adopted older brother. He is a man of few words and that just makes him even more intriguing. Then there is Nick. I find myself very suspicious of him. He attends school with Gretchen and seems to know more than he should. I am anxious to know his real motives.

Sweet Venom is mostly the set up for the series. There is definitely some action but I have a feeling the story will be more intense in the next book now that the characters have been introduced and the basics have been explained. I am so excited about this series and these characters. Sweet Venom is such a fun read!

The Royal House of Shadows series is unique in that each book will be written by a different author. This first one is written by Gena Showalter who happens to be my favorite author. The rest of the books will be written by Jill Monroe, Jessica Andersen, and Nalini Singh. The release dates are only a month apart so this series will be an easy one to follow.

I have mixed feelings about Lord of the Vampires. I think the story would have benefited greatly from more pages than the 288 there are because the storyline felt rushed. I also had trouble connecting with Jane and I wasn't that crazy about Nicolai either. I think what really put me off was the instant connection between them. Nicolai doesn't exactly make the best first impression so I felt like the chemistry between him and Jane should have had a slower build. I expected Jane to resist more and for longer.

I really love the overall premise of the entire series with the royal heirs sent away for their safety but at the same time filled with the need for vengeance. Although I had some issues with this book I do plan on continuing with the series. I'm looking forward to getting to know each of the siblings and their situations.

This is the 9th book in the Pretty Little Liars series. If you have not read this series before I recommend you start from the beginning, otherwise you will just get lost. You would think by now the story would get old and maybe even predictable, but no. I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed it. I had thought that the 8th book was the last one and that the story was finished and I was okay with that because I felt that it was ending on a good note. Now that I have read Twisted I am so glad that the author decided to write more. At this rate I don't think i will ever get tired of this series.

Although there was quite a bit of death in the previous books this one somehow feels a bit darker and I think it has to do with the girl's secrets this time around. Not all the secrets they are keeping are revealed yet but the ones that are will shock you. Honestly, by now you would think they would realize that keeping secrets is like cancer. The lies and paranoia cause them to spiral out of control. Obviously, they have not learned their lesson the first time around.

Aria was my favorite to read about in this book. The situation with the exchange student staying with her boyfriend's family is laced with juicy drama. Hannah endangers her father's campaign when some not so tasteful photos of her are taken. I felt how she handled things was pretty extreme. Spencer makes me want to roll my eyes. It always seems to be guys with her, and this time it is her future step-brother. Okay, so technically they aren't actually related but still it is a stretch. When will she learn (or for that matter when will any of them)? Emily is the hardest one to read about because she always comes across as pathetic and needy. Her dilemma is pretty serious though and it is only compounded by her personality. Maybe she comes off as pathetic because she feels so guilty.

In addition to their individual dramas there is a secret even bigger that they all share. Totally unexpected with lots of twists and turns. The storyline will keep you in a lot of suspense and wanting more. I'm sure that there will be more crazy plot twists in the books to come and I am anxious to find out how the girls handle things not to mention learn more about their secrets.

I really loved the first book in the Personal Demons series so my standards were set pretty high for Original Sin. Unfortunately I was let down a bit. Although the story was good I also found it to be predictable. The problem mostly had to do with the author's penchant for giving characters revealing names (like Luc=Lucifer, Gabe=Gabriel). A new character was introduced and I immediately knew what was going on with her just based on the name. I'm not sure it was the author's intention for it to be figured out so quickly. There were clues throughout the story of the character's identity, and had I not known immediately who she was I would have enjoyed figuring it out over the course of the story. Since I was aware of this character's identity right off the bat, most of the plot was predictable.

Frannie's angel brother Matt is in the story a lot. Actually the book alternates point of view between him, Frannie, and Luc so we get to view his thoughts about his sister's relationship with Luc as well as this new character. For those of you wanting a Gabe fix, I hate to disappoint but he isn't in this book very much at all. If he had been though, most of what occurred in this book probably wouldn't have happened. I doubt he would have been blind to so many clues that were presented.

Luc was the best part of the book. The love, fierce protectiveness, and the fact that he became human for Frannie makes him swoonworthy. I really just can't get enough of him. There were some tough moments for him and I definitely felt his pain. In addition to Luc, some interesting tidbits about Lucifer, a newly discovered power, and Frannie's family saved this series for me. Based on these things I am interested enough to want to continue this series.

Luna is odd with an ethereal quality. She is open, friendly and nonjudgmental wich I think would pair well with Puck's mischievous playfulness. I think they would have a lot of fun together. I also think that since they are both able to use magic the pairing is a good one.

Book Recommendation:

Wildefire by Karsten Knight

This is an amazing read, especially if you like mythology. What makes this one really stand out amongst other books is that is doesn't limit itself to one type of mythology and the characters are of a variety of ethnicity. It is a nice change from the norm. The gradual discovery of what god or goddess the characters are is exciting as well as the danger they must face.

Book recommendation from books read during read-a-thon:

Twisted by Sara Shepard

This is the 9th book in the Pretty Little Liars series and yet it is just as awesome as the first! Each chapter leaves you anxious to find out what happens next. The curiosity will drive you crazy and leave you wanting more and more. This book has some unexpected twists to it and the storyline promises to build up to something even darker than in the first 8 books in the series. In Twisted there are more secrets, betrayals, and danger. It will leave you on the edge of your seat in suspense and shock.

Overall:

I'm not really satisfied with the amount I read. Had I stayed focused on reading I could have easily read 5 or 6 books at least. I only completed 2 books and about 1/3 of another. As it is, I did read more in these 3 days than I have been lately so I am glad I joined the read-a-thon.

Death Sentence is the third book in the Escape from Furnace series and just like the previous books I was blown away with this one. This series is amazing and grabs the reader's attention from the start which makes it perfect for reluctant readers (especially boys). Alexander Gordon Smith is one of my favorite authors and writes such a brilliant story that there really is no age limit to who would enjoy these books. This is a young adult series and remains appropriate for that age group but as an adult reading this series I don't feel like I am missing out on anything just because it is YA.

The author's descriptive writing really drew me in. From the beginning I could feel the evil of Furnace like a great weight settling on my shoulders. I felt like I was there with Alex experiencing all the horrors that Furnace had to offer. The Warden has Alex pumped full of the vile dark nectar that transforms him and most of the book is about this horrifying change...both physical and mental. It was shocking and terrifying to read. My absolute favorite part of the book though is learning about how Furnace and these "experiments" started. I can't believe that I never really wondered about that. I just took it for what it was but now that I know, the story is even more intriguing and I am dying to learn more secrets of Furnace.

So many times while reading this I was filled with despair for Alex. He had gone so far only to be dragged back to be turned into a monster. The dark nectar erases who you are and I was worried what would happen to Alex. Would he be able to fight back the darkness or would he fully succumb to it, even embrace it? Part of me was in denial with what was happening. I just kept thinking there was no way the author would do this to Alex...turn him into this thing that was no longer him. But he went there and I love this book all the more for it. In a place like Furnace how likely is it that someone who caused that much trouble walk away unscathed? Alex HAD to go through this. He HAD to experience the wrath of Furnace. If he didn't then the story would be flat and lack the raw grittiness that makes it so enthralling. This macabre story will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I was really interested in reading Witches of East Ends after reading the blurb and it certainly didn't hurt that it is written by Melissa de la Cruz. Although the story starts off just a tad slowly it really picks up after a bit. This is actually an adult novel but I am sure teens would enjoy this book if they enjoyed the Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz ( there are some sex scenes -not really graphic in my opinion-though so keep that in mind). For the author's first foray into adult novels I think she did an excellent job. The characters were so interesting (Ingrid is my favorite!) and I enjoyed watching events unfold.

The Beauchamps history is intriguing. There were enough descriptions in the story to give a good idea of who they are, but I would love to go even deeper into that. The sisters Freya and Ingrid are like day and night with Freya being the party girl wild child and Ingrid being the more serious and conservative straight-laced one. Their mother Joanna is a little less easily defined. Obviously, Freya provides a lot of the entertainment in the story but Ingrid is the character that really caught my attention the most (probably because I can identify with her more). After not being able to use their magic for so long once they started they just didn't want to stop, and who could blame them when magic is a part of them? You could almost feel a weight being lifted off their shoulders once they decided to continue to use their magic. It was then that I was able to get a really good idea of their character.

There was only one thing in the book that just didn't make sense to me and it involved knowledge of someone's identity. I won't say anything more about that but if you read the book you will probably understand what I mean...or maybe it is just me. Oh well, I was able to get past my confusion and still enjoy the book. There were quite a few surprising turns. I like that I wasn't able to figure everything out from the beginning and I actually didn't see most of it coming at all. I can't wait to read more of this series in the future!

In order to enjoy this book it is absolutely necessary that you read the first book, The Ivy, first or you won't understand a lot of what happens. I really loved The Ivy and was excited to read Secrets. Although I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book I still liked it a lot. This book is filled with drama drama drama. Kind of like watching a train wreck about to happen but you just can't seem to look away.

********Spoilers ahead if you haven't read the first book********

Callie is being blackmailed with a sex tape, her boyfriend wanted them to take a break and she slept with the player across the hall, and her roommate/ex-best friend is now her enemy. Like I said D-R-A-M-A. The lack of communication is what is really doing her in. She is keeping secrets from people and that always spells trouble. So many moments in the story had me wanting to yell at Callie and tell her to talk things through and stop assuming things about everyone. I feel like so many of her problems would have been solved immediately if she had just told someone what was going on.

What I really missed in this book is the roommates and the guys across the hall. Sure they were in it but nowhere near enough. Their antics and personalities are what made the first book shine so much in my opinion and it was sad that they were barely in it. The triangle between Gregory, Callie, and Clint was surprisingly one of the more minor issues in the story so I think that will come more into play in the next book. I guess this book was more about the blackmail situation and the friction between Callie and her roommate/ex-best friend Vanessa.

I was really surprised at how the story ended. Surprised in a good way that is. There are still plenty of problems and drama left over for the next book but many of the main problems were taken care of and the way things ended up was perfect. Not everything is necessarily happily ever after but I think that is a good thing.

After I finished this book I had step back and contemplate it for a couple of days. It was such an amazing story that I just wanted time to think about it. The story is told from both Amy's point of view and Elder's. It switches off each chapter and the chapters are titled with the character's name whose point of view it is told in. This helps to keep things from getting confusing (which could easily happen when switching back and forth like this). The schematics of the ship is included in the book which I think was an awesome idea. Not only does it look cool, but it also helps to give perspective on where the characters go throughout the story.

Amy is such a strong female character. She had the choice of staying behind on Earth or going to a new planet with her parents and she chose her parents. To give up life as you know it to be frozen for 300 years as you travel to a new planet is an incredible and difficult decision. In addition to that she is woken up prematurely by 50 years...which means that when her parents are finally woken up she will be older than them. Of course she is distraught, but she has to push those feelings aside to find out who is killing the others who were frozen as well before they get to her parents.

Elder is being trained by Eldest to take his place as leader of the ship one day. Eldest is keeping secrets and not teaching Elder the things he really needs to know though. Elder is already starting to question Eldest's behavior but once Amy comes into the picture things really reach a boiling point. There are some pretty twisted secrets aboard the ship Godspeed. Just when I thought I would have everything figured out there would be a curve ball and I would be shocked at how things are even crazier than I first thought.

I have pretty much nothing negative to say about this book other than I hated the way Amy would refer to her father as "daddy." It is something trivial but it grated on my nerves because even though she is in a vulnerable situation she is a teenager and every time she said it it made her seem extremely immature which goes against the strength she shows throughout the story. I think had she used that term once or twice during especially distressing moments it would have had a better effect than the constant use of it.

This is a dystopian story which is extremely popular right now. I would recommend this to those who love this particular genre and also to newbies of the genre. I am so excited that this is just the first book in a series. I think it is actually strong enough to stand on its own but I am definitely not complaining that I get to read more about life on Godspeed. I'm sure there will be many more secrets unearthed and new problems arising from the decisions made at the end of Across the Universe. I look forward to seeing how things come together.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I love the idea of it, but it is extremely confusing. Hardly anything is really explained and honestly I felt lost for much of the story. I think the story lacked some focus. I also found that Vi's ignorance most of her life about her "powers" just doesn't mesh when so many other people happen to know about hers and their own (and have for awhile). Once she does realize she has these powers half the time she doesn't know what to do but then all of a sudden she knows she can do this complicated stuff but then goes back to not knowing what to do later. It was very back and forth and was a little off-putting. I think had there been more background info given about everything the story would have made more sense and I would really have loved this book.

Usually when there is a love triangle I find myself rooting for one of the guys, but that was not the case in this book. I though both were manipulative jerks in their own ways. Jag and Vi's relationship just didn't ring true for me. He doesn't really come across as sincere. As for Zenn, his situation is a little more complicated because it is difficult to tell what is really him and what is controlled.

Despite my criticism of certain aspects I did still find the book to be very interesting and the ending was pretty good. I'm not sure if there will be a sequel, but it is set up perfectly for one and I would probably read it to see if it things start making sense to me. The mind controlling, rules, technology, and the way society is set up is very intriguing and I hope that if there will be more books that it will explain more about the whys and hows of it all since it was just glossed over in Possession. If you enjoy reading dystopian you *might* enjoy reading this one.

When I read the description of this book the first thing that caught my eye was the part that mentions gods and goddesses. Once I read that I knew I wanted to read this. I love all types of mythology. I was expecting the usual Greek mythology but I was very pleasantly surprised that it is actually a variety of mythology as well as the characters being a variety of ethnicity. Honestly most of the YA books I have read feature Caucasians or if they are of a different ethnicity they might mention the skin color once but leave it at that with no more info about it. This is really the first time I can think of that the subject of ethnicity was really discussed. I thought it made the story more interesting because of it. I also would like to point out that the author of this book is male. I have read very few YA books written by a man and I don't thin any of them have written about a female as the main character. He did an excellent job with it and I didn't even realize the author was male until after I finished the book.

Ashline was involved with a terrible accident because of her sister Eve so she transfer to a private school across the country. There she eventually discovers that she and a small group of other students from the school are gods and goddesses. They are in danger in a number of ways but the most immediate threat seems to be Eve who comes after her sister. Eve is extremely dangerous and temperamental. She doesn't seem to really have a consistence at all so there are definitely times in the story that things get pretty nerve wracking. I really don't want to say too much and spoil the story but there is action, a little bit of romance, tragedy, and self discovery. Not something you want to miss out on!

Finding out the names of each of the student's god or goddess felt pretty thrilling as well as finding out what their powers are. This book is really just the tip of the iceberg. I feel like things are really going to get even more intense in the next books and I am anxious to read more. The ending of Wildefire was a doozy and actually quite unexpected. It ends on a note that will keep you in suspense and eagerly awaiting the next in the series.

The Magnolia league really stands out to me. There is something about it that makes it feel different from other YA books. It could just be that the subject matter is not something I have read a lot of. I also like that there is quite a bit of humor and some quirky characters. Just a warning to readers or parents that this book is probably not for younger teens. The main character, Alex, was raised on a pot farm and there is some drug use and underage drinking. It is talked about rather flippantly and that might rub some people the wrong way. Personally, I don't have a problem reading about it but others might.

I think that Alex being raised in a commune/pot farm environment is an interesting way to show what a drastic change occurs in her lifestyle once she moves to Georgia to live with her grandmother. She is honest, cares for the environment, and is not materialistic and that has a lot to do with her upbringing which is the opposite of life in Savannah where wealth, power, and good looks are of the utmost importance. She handles the change poorly in my opinion because of her insecurities and ultimately she starts to become almost a different person. I am interested in finding out just how deep those changes in her are in future installments of the series.

There is a sinister undercurrent throughout the book. The Buzzard family may seem friendly at times but underneath they are dangerous. The Magnolias are playing with fire by interacting with them but they are so caught up in the power they just don't see it coming. It is like watching a fly buzzing around a spiderweb. You know that if the fly hangs around too long it is going to get caught and be made into a meal. It seems inevitable that this will happen to the Magnolias at some point but the who, what, where, when, and why remains a mystery at this point.

Although a lot of info is revealed about the Magnolia League there are still a lot of questions left unanswered. This book was a great starting off point for the series with introducing a lot of information and of course the characters, so I am pretty sure there will be more of a focus on conflict in the next book. With the way this book ended it seems only likely that things will get very serious and crucial in the future.

By far Illusions is my favorite book in the Wings series. The story felt more rounded out and developed...more complicated and a little less straightforward and obvious. I felt really pulled in with the possible subterfuge going on and even though there probably wasn't technically any more action in this book than the previous ones it seemed like it because it felt like there was a constant threat. I seriously could not put the book down. Aprilynne Pike knows how to leave readers desperate for more. Her books end on cliffhangers that leave me yelling "NOOOOOO! I NEED to know what happens NOW!" and then I have to calm down and realize it is not the end of the world. On the bright side, it means there will be another awesome book to read eventually.

A big thing with YA is the love triangles. Off the top of my head I can't even think of one that doesn't have one and the Wings series is no exception. So the question is Team Tamani or Team David? It is a difficult choice for readers and obviously Laurel. Every time I think she is going to go one way she seems to either do the opposite or backtrack. It is interesting but sometimes it is frustrating because her indecision is often hurtful and seems selfish. She does know that she is being that way but she is torn about it. I don't envy her position in this situation.

I like that Chelsea is around more in this book because her presence in the previous books (especially Spells) seemed random and a little off. She feels more like part of the group now and her presence makes more sense. Shar was also in the story a little more and readers get to learn something interesting about him. I hope that the information comes into play more in the future because I found it to be fascinating.

This series absolutely has to be read in proper order to be enjoyed. If you have read the first 2 and liked it I would be absolutely shocked if you didn't enjoy this one. As I previously said this is my favorite so far and that is saying a lot because the first book always tends to be my favorite when it comes to series.

The story starts off with Laurel going to Avalon to attend the school there to catch up on her learning. It is one of my favorite parts of the book because the descriptions of Avalon and life there is fascinating. I would love to just read an entire book about Avalon and the fairies living there, but this is Laurel's story and she lives most of her life in the human realm.

As for the action in Spells I would say that there is more action than in Wings, but not by much. It seems like just when things are getting started they end almost abruptly. If it was drawn out a little more I think it would be a tad more interesting and would build up suspense. Really, most of the suspense that is created is from who Laurel will end up with, David or Tamani. The ending of the book was awesome and has made me eager to find out what is going to happen in the next book.

Although I do feel that the story could be rounded out with more detail and explanations I still enjoyed it very much and I feel that it is a great follow up to the first book in the series. This series is prefect for teens and adults who like fantasy. This was a pretty quick read once I really got into it.

If you enjoy reading YA fantasy or faeries then you will most likely enjoy this book. It is the first in a series and once you finish Wings you will eagerly want to read the next. At 294 pages it was a pretty quick read for me. I usually prefer books with at least 350 pages because any less than that and the story usually seems rushed or like it is missing something. In the case of Wings the number of pages didn't matter. The story felt well rounded and I was satisfied with the plot.

It is easy to infer from the book description that Laurel is a faerie. Although there is some conflict in the story the bulk of it is about Laurel discovering what she is and befriending a boy named David. David is one of those guys every girl wishes for. He goes out of his way to help others, is thoughtful, and understanding. I do feel his niceness is just a bit much, especially with all the things he does for a girl he basically just met but then again this is a fantasy book.

There was very little action in the story until the end and even then it wasn't much. There were maybe 2 major conflicts. The "bad guys" were interesting but I felt that I didn't get to learn about them as much as I would have liked. Like I previously said though, the story is really about Laurel finding out who she is so really everything else pretty much takes a back seat to that and that is fine with me. I like getting to know the main character so well up front so that the rest of the books in the series can branch out more.

I am anxious to see if any of the more minor characters play a bigger part in the next book, Spells. I am also curious to see how Laurels love life will play out. It is definitely a confusing and difficult time for her. The decisions she makes in that area will no doubt be a major element of the story.

This dystopian simply blew me away. In the very beginning I thought maybe I wasn't going to care for it too much but that quickly changed and I was simply unable to put the book down. I was so engrossed in it that I managed to read it in a matter of hours (and it is definitely not a tiny book). I think that for anyone who loves dystopian this story is a must-read, and for those who have never read one before this is a great place to start.

In the story the city is fenced in and patrolled. All the residents of the city are divided up into factions based on what characteristic they value most and believe would have prevented war in the past. Here is a breakdown of the factions and their characteristic:

Abegnation: selfless
Candor: honest
Dauntless: brave
Amity: peaceful
Erudite: intelligent

There are also Factionless people who fail to make it into a faction. They are very poor and rely on much of the charity by Abegnation.

These traits are taken to the extreme in the factions. Abegnation always put others before them, Candor are always bluntly honest, etc. Because of this, government and other jobs are doled out to specific factions like the Dauntless are like police/guards, Abegnation head up the government because they are uncorrectable due to their selflessness.

Up to the age of 16 student of all factions attend the same school. In their 16th year they are tested privately to see what faction they have an aptitude for. After that occurs there is a ceremony in which they choose what faction they will belong to the rest of their life. They do not have to choose the faction for which they have the aptitude and also if they switch from the faction they were born into they often become shunned by their family as they often see it as a betrayal. It is almost like a competition between all the factions.

The main character is Beatrice who come from Abegnation. When it is time for her to pick factions she chooses Dauntless. The training begins. If she fails her training she will become Factionless. She has to learn to fight and be fearless despite her small size and upbringing which taught her to put others first. The transformation she goes through is an intense and inspiring thing to read. There is a little romance and a lot of corruption in the story, but I don't want to give anything away. I highly recommend this book and I hope that many of you will pick it up and enjoy it as much as I did.

Simply put this book is amazing and I was completely blown away by it. I have always enjoyed mythology and I love to read different takes on it so I was excited to read this book. I had pretty high expectations for it and I am so glad that I was not let down. This story is about a girl who has to pass seven tests in order to become a goddess and help Hades run the Underworld. That alone makes this story intriguing but it really goes deeper than that. It is about difficult choices, love, friendship, and understanding. There were quite a few surprises, some of which I had an inkling of suspicion about and others that completely caught me off guard. What I really loved the most about this book though was the slowly built relationship between Kate and Henry. It wasn't some instant love type of thing that makes you want to roll your eyes, but it was something that developed over the time they had together. It also was not easy for them with the possibility of Kate failing the tests or even dying and on top of that, Kate having to deal with the knowledge that Henry still loved Persephone and she could never replace her in his heart. I hope that in the future installments we get to learn more about all the gods and goddesses. I think they are a diverse and interesting bunch.

I am at a loss for words when it comes to The Goddess Test...it is just so phenomenal that nothing I can say about it can really express the awesomeness that is this story. It is one of the best books I have read since I started this blog. It appears this series will be a trilogy so there are two more books to look forward to. The title of the second book in the series will be Goddess Interrupted with a release date in early 2012.

Rachel Gibson has written about another Chinook hockey player and I just can't get enough! Contemporary romance is not a genre I read much of and I really don't like sports and yet I am in love with Rachel's books about these sexy hockey players. Any Man of Mine is a light, romantic, and enjoyable read. I breezed through it in one evening and was left feeling happy with a smile on my face.

The history between Autumn and Sam is pretty interesting and leaves them at odds with each other for years. The change in Sam seems a little out of nowhere and sudden. There wasn't a real "Aha!" moment that I could pinpoint so the only explanation I can think of is that he matured in the five or six years since they were married. Autumn's heart had been broken and she was angry and bitter for years about it and only recently was able to let go of that...of course, that is when Sam started to become more involved in her life. I suppose that could also be the reason for Sam's change in behavior. He was maybe able to finally see past all that anger to the woman he had fallen in love with.

Autumn has trust issues with Sam for a good reason and I understand that. I do have to respect her ability to forgive though. It is a difficult thing to do, especially with all the hurt he put her through. Both Autumn and Sam became better people over the course of the story and as that unfolded it was heartwarming and gives a sense of hope that even though love is not always easy, it does exist and can overcome hardships and mistakes.

If you have read any of Rachel Gibson's books you will not be disappointed in this one. If you have not read the author's previous books I highly recommend them if you enjoy contemporary romance. I have found that it is not necessary to read the books in any particular order so if you just want to pick up Any Man of Mine you can do that and still enjoy the story.

For those of you who haven't read this series let me stop you here and say RUN don't walk to your nearest bookstore and start with book one of this series (if you are 18+). It is amazing and reading out of order would just ruin the story for you.

This has become one of my very favorite series and i eagerly anticipate reading each book when it comes out. That being said after reading Lover Unleashed I can sort of feel the wind down of the series which is sad. Maybe I am wrong and there will be a ton more books but to me it seems like things are starting to wrap up. This is Payne's story but it is just as much Vishous' story as well, which only seems right since they are twins. In the last book Payne became injured, paralyzed from the waist down, and it was also the first time Vishous met his sister or even knew she existed. In Lover Unleashed, Dr. Manello is brought in to treat Payne and sparks fly between the two. Of course it is not easy for them though. Dr. Manello is human and not supposed to know of the Vamps existence and Vishous hates the man with a passion because of his history with Jane. It was an interesting relationship to see develop. I am most surprised by Payne's personality though because although she is strong and can fight she seems very gentle and shy which goes against what I thought I remembered of her in the last book. In my mind I thought in the last book she had a more "warrior" kind of attitude but I most have been getting her mixed up with Xhex somehow.

Things get really dire for Vishous. He always seems to be on the edge of a major break and things really came to a head in Lover Unleashed. Emotions really ran high and I think Vishous sort of eclipsed Payne in this book actually. Other than Butch and Qhuinn, none of the other males are featured. They are barely even mentioned in passing which was just a little disappointing because I always enjoy sort of catching up with what everyone is doing. The most disappointing was the lack Of Blaylock who is a character I really feel for. Although he is in it and is talked about some it is basically a tiny snippet. I am really keeping my fingers crossed that the next book is focused on him. Not a whole lot of action (of the fightin kind) but the parts that are there are good of course. The drive the Brothers have to fight enemies was lacking a bit so everything didn't feel as crucial which in turn had me feeling a little less invested in what was going on. The physical chemistry between the Doctor and Payne was smokin hot and I really love that through it all the Doctor was a gentleman about it which really made me feel the connection he had with her. Ultimately this was an excellent read that I could not put down and has me desperate to read the next in the series.

Rachel Hawkins is the author of a great YA series about a girl named Sophie who is sent to a reform school for teens with powers (witches, vampires, shifters, etc.). When I read the first book, Hex Hall, I immediately fell in love with it. I was very excited to have the opportunity to review Rachel's second book in the series, Demonglass, which was just released on March 1st. My love for the series continues and I can't wait for the next book to come out! I was very fortunate that I was able to do a Q&A with Rachel, and here it is!

1) If you were to write a spin-off of the Hex Hall series, which character would you write about?

Well, I actually AM writing a spin-off of the Hex Hall series! :) And while I can't give too much away, I will say that the character is someone we don't meet until Book 3, and that she comes from a very different background that Sophie. Let's just say Prodigium aren't her favorite thing.

2) Would you rather be a demon, witch, vampire, or shapeshifter?

Oooh.... all 3 have advantages and drawbacks! I think I'd go with demon. Vamps can't go out in the sun (unless they have a bloodstone, obviously), and shifters have the Hair Issue. Sure, as a demon, I might freak out and destroy the world, but that's a risk I'm willing to take!

3) Sophie's best friend Jenna is a fanatic for the color pink, is that your favorite color too?

It soooo is, haha! I'd have an entirely pink bedroom if my husband didn't have to sleep in there, too!

4) What character has been the most difficult to write about?

Cal is always tough for me because he's so stoic and plays thing so close to the chest. There were so many times I wanted to give him a witty comeback and had to remind myself that no, Cal doesn't quip. I think he's tough because of all the characters, he's the furthest one from me.

5) What character has been the easiest or most fun to write about?

Sophie and Archer tie for that one! I think that's why I like writing them together so much. Their back and forth banter is so easy (and fun!) to write.

Josselin is an impulsive and headstrong female. I often find these traits appealing in a heroine, but in this case I felt that she was always too quick to jump to conclusions and a bit naive about the intentions of others. I guess she just kind of rubbed me the wrong way so I never really felt any emotions towards her character. As for Drew, the Englishman masquerading as a golfing Highlander, I thought he was a bit uninteresting which was a surprise since he sounded like a unique and intriguing character at first. The description of the book makes it sound like the story is full of drama and adventure...it (sort of) is, but nothing heart pumping or jaw dropping. I think I just expected a little more. The story is not a bad one, it is just not a great one. Connecting with the characters is something very important for me and if I don't have that then I tend not to enjoy a story. I do think many people who enjoy historical romances would like this book, I just don't happen to be one of them.

I only recently started this series, but since I picked up that first book I have been reading the Daughters of the Glen books nonstop. If you haven't read the series before I suggest you read it in order or you will miss out on a lot of things. There is time travel, romance, adventure, highlanders, Fae and more!

From the book prior to Healing the Highlander I just knew Andrew and Leah's paths were meant to cross. Andrew was seriously wounded in a battle to save his sister and cousin and was also injured practicing sword fighting with his brother and has lived with terrible pain and scars since. Leah is from the future and was brought to the past to keep her safe from the Nuadian Fae. She has the power to heal and was held captive and abused by the evil Fae which resulted in her hatred for all things Fae including her own powers.

When her adoptive grandparents are in trouble she goes to seek help at Dun Ard despite the resident's ties to the Fae. On the way there her path crosses with Andrew and he saves her. There is an almost instant bond between them.

I loved reading about Leah and Drew! Their relationship happened quickly first out of necessity to deceive those that might mean harm but the feelings they felt for each other eventually became very real. This is one of my favorites in this series. I think a lot of that has to do with Drew. He is a pretty emotional guy...he feels things deeply and strongly. It was refreshing to read about a guy like that. I love that this series changes things up with each book. Sometimes the setting is mostly in the past, sometimes in the present, sometimes the main enemy is the Nuadians, sometimes its regular people. It keeps things fresh and prevents me from feeling like I am reading the same book over and over. This is now one of my favorite series!

Wow! This book is ridiculously awesome...seriously. The whole series is amazing and I really didn't think it could get any better but it did. Regin isn't my favorite character, I mean don't get me wrong she is awesome and totally badass, but she isn't my favorite female character in the series and despite that this is my favorite book in the series now. Regin the Radiant is one fierce Valkyrie who has a history with a berserker who reincarnates over and over (without memories of his previous lives) to seek her out and reunite with her. The problem is that once they kiss and have sex he remembers their pasts and that is when tragedy strikes and he is killed...every time. This time though, Regin's beloved berserker is not sweet, loving and caring. He is Declan Chase, the magister of the facility that has been capturing Loreans and doing terrible things to them. He is hated by all Loreans and even feared by those he works with. His whole life is his job and he hates Loreans with a passion. He is also unaware that he is a Lorean himself. Regin is captured but Declan himself and taken to the facility.

Out of all the pairings in the previous books in this series this has to be the one fraught with the most complications. There is so much for them to overcome that it seems impossible. Even if they managed to it seemed like Declan would be a dead man walking because of the things he did, so what was the point? I also thought it would be impossible for me to really like Declan Chase. He's the bad guy and he has done horrific things, yet somehow I found myself rooting for him to come out of this a better man and not a dead one. For that I think Kresley Cole is a genius. I love that the events in this book happened simultaneously with those of the last book because it gave a different view on what all was happening at the facility and after it fell. Near the end of the book my curiosity about Lothaire's endgame really intensified and I also want to know what Nix is doing as well.

In the second book of the Hex Hall series Sophie finally meets her dad when he shows up to take her to the Council Headquarters in London to teach her all about being a demon. When she gets there she is met by the council members and also two demons, which is a shock because she thought that she and her father were the only demons. Well it turns out that someone is turning people into demons and the The Eye is rising up to destroy those they see as monsters.

It was pretty interesting to read about Sophie's father, but he definitely holds himself back so it is difficult to get a good read on him. Cal, the hunky groundsman from the first book is in this book quite a bit which I am thrilled about. I am forever rooting for the guy that is considered "the friend" when it comes to love triangles, but it always seems that the other guy always wins the girl. Although Archer is a great character I wish just for once the friend would prevail. Who knows, maybe Cal will. All the complications and turmoil between Archer and Sophie make for good reading though. Jenna is also in London with Sophie but she doesn't play a very big role in the story, which was a little disappointing for me because I love her character.

Surprisingly not much action in book 2 compared to book 1 in the series. It was still enjoyable though because a lot of info is revealed. At the very end of the book the action/drama picks up some and it is left on a cliffhanger that nearly drove me up the wall wondering what happened to all the different characters. If you haven't gotten hooked on the series yet you will once you read Demonglass because it will drive you crazy with curiosity (plus it is just a great read anyway). Oh, and I have some suspicions about something that may be revealed in the next book and I can't wait to find out if I am right.

From the very first book in the Circle of Sin series I became interested with Kate Woodbridge. She had a unique upbringing and she is a little mysterious so I was eager to learn more about her. Her past becomes more clear and it really shows how resourceful she is. She had an encounter with Marco at a low point in her life and she is afraid that Marco will remember her so she is desperate to keep him at a distance but at the same time she is drawn to him. Marco is drawn to her as well even though he is on a mission and was basically ordered to keep his hands off her. While at the duke's house party someone is murdered and Kate and Marco search to find the killer and in the process discover an even bigger plot.

I really loved the chemistry between the two main characters and I think the pairing really made sense. One of my favorite parts of the book is that Marco and Kate aren't the only ones to find love in it. I would have enjoyed reading even more about that but it is what it is. There is action, intrigue, and love...a nice variety to keep things interesting.

Although I always think it is best to read a series in order I do think this is one a person could pick up and easily read without reading the books prior to it. To Tempt a Rake is not my favorite of the Circle of Sin series but altogether I was satisfied with it and I am sad that it is the last in the series. I'm really looking forward to whatever Cara Elliott writes next!

I remember first reading Jane Eyre when I was in middle school. My mom had encouraged me to read some of the classics she had on her bookshelf. I found some difficult to get through but I didn't seem to have that problem with Jane Eyre. It became one of my favorites. It is a dark story but there is love and it is different from any other book I have read. I've always wished there was a follow up story or a modernized version so I was very excited when I heard about April Lindner's book.

Throughout the entire book I could feel the spirit of the original come through. I was a little worried that it would get lost in the changes needed to modernize it, but all the important elements are there as well as the emotions that the original exudes. I believe that if I had never read Jane Eyre before I would want to after reading this book. Don't let the fact that it is labeled as Young Adult deter you from reading this if you are an adult.

I loved all the characters and I thought that Nico Rathburn (Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre) as a rock star looking for a comeback was perfect to sort of make him seem unattainable and maybe a bit intimidating to Jane. Reading about their evolving relationship kept me glued to the pages, and then of course when disaster hits I couldn't put the book down because I was desperate to know what Jane would do. The most interesting thing to me is that I already know this story and what will happen but the author really drew me in and it was like reading it for the first time.

I know that remakes of something you love often turn out to be disappointing because the bar is set so high, but this book blew me away. At the most I had hoped that it wouldn't suck and that I would kind of like it but it turns out that I LOVE it! I love it just as much as the original it turns out and it makes me hopeful that more great stories are remade with just as much thought and care.

Lady Hero is engaged to the Marquis of Mandeville. A perfect match many would say. Both of them appear to be above reproach and are very dignified. Mandeville's brother, Griffin, is another story. He is know to be a rake and rumor is that he seduced his brother's first wife. Hero first meets Griffin when she saves him from being discovered by the husband of the woman he was being intimate with. To get his attention Hero actually had to throw her earring at his bare behind! She had no idea he was her betrothed's brother at the time and of course their personalities clashed immediately. Needless to say she wasn't exactly thrilled to find out who he was.

Throughout the story Hero and Griffin find themselves drawn together and Hero learns that Griffin is not such the bad guy he seems. He may not be a perfect angel but he is a good man with good intentions. I thought it was pretty interesting how Griffin and Hero seemed to be at opposite ends of the spectrum from each other but in the end it seemed like they really met in the middle. He seemed like such a bad boy but he turns out to be pretty good and she was so dignified and perfect but it turns out she has a lot of passion and is kind of naughty. Meanwhile, Mandeville has problems trusting women because of what happened with his first wife. He doesn't trust his brother around his fiance but for a guy with trust issues he doesn't freak out as much as I would have thought when his brother spends time with Hero. I'm sure that is because his heart is not in it. He cares for another woman, but she is bold not very proper which is the opposite of the very proper Hero. This woman has had many lovers, one of them being him at one time, and he could never really trust her.

If you have read the first book in the series, Wicked Intentions, you probably remember Silence. She is the sister of the main female lead in that book. To save her husband she basically had to make a deal with the devil. Ultimately she did save her husband but at the cost of her reputation and the love and respect of her husband. In this book her husband has gone back to sea and she is now helping at the foundling home and taking care of the baby, Mary Darling, that was dropped off on the doorstep of the home she shared with her husband. On a regular basis there are small gifts left on the doorstep for the baby and it is a mystery who it is that is leaving them. I am very excited that the next book is going to be about Silence. Her part in Notorious Pleasures just whet my appetite for her story. It is pretty obvious who her leading man will be but it is definitely going to be interesting to watch how it will actually unfold.

First Alert 8 Sheet Cross Cut Shredder

It took me awhile but I eventually decided to review a paper shredder. I'm slightly paranoid that someone will steal my identity from the bazillion credit card offers I get in the mail daily. I always try to remember to tear them up before throwing them away but it probably wouldn't be hard for someone to patch it back together if they really wanted to.

I received the paper shredder and put it together which was super easy because it is basically a little trashcan you set the shredder on top of. I happened to have one of those annoying credit card offer on hand so I fed it into the machine and watched it shred through the little window on the machine. I can't even begin to describe how immensely satisfying it was to shred something. As soon as it was done I jumped up and scoured the house for something else to shred. I'm not sure why, but it was a fun thing to do.

The machine does all the work. All you have to do is turn it on and put the paper in the opening. The shredder then sort of grabs hold of it and brings it on through (kind of like a printer does to paper). There is also a reverse button on it. I guess that it for if there is a jam or something. I haven't had to use it yet so I'm not sure. If you don't own a paper shredder you should! Other than burning bills and things with your info on it the best way to get rid of it effectively is to shred it...plus it is just fun. I feel a bit safer (and less paranoid) now that I can shred my mail instead of just ripping it up by hand.

Of all the Sharpe siblings, I have been looking forward to Minerva's story the most. I think a lot of it has to do with her being a popular gothic romance writer. It is a bit scandalous for her to do that, not to mention she uses her real name instead of a pen name. Minerva isn't some simpering weak-minded female you find in many historical romances, she has a backbone and is intelligent.

In order for the Sharpe sibling to get their inheritance, their grandmother Hettie has made it a condition that they all must marry. That is a tall order for them because they are a bunch of hellions who don't seem to want to marry. When they were children their parents were killed. Speculation is that their mother shot their father, then killed herself because her husband was blatantly faithless to her so much. The Sharpe's feel there is more to the story and are trying to solve the murders because there is so much mystery about what happened that night.

Minerva's main fears about marriage are that her husband will make her stop writing and that he will turn out to be just like her father. Those reasons are all very valid, however when she puts in ad in the paper for a husband (to annoy her grandmother in hopes she will make an exception for Minerva) a man she used to love answers. Giles Masters is a friend of Minerva's brothers and she was in love with him since she was nine until she was nineteen when he broke her heart. Another nine years have passed and in that time she has created a villain in her books that bears a striking resemblance to Griffin which is part of the reason Griffin answered her ad for a husband. He wants to marry her in part because he figures he can get her to stop writing about him and in part because he has had some feelings for her for a long time.

Minerva and Giles's story was a lot of fun to read. They had a lot of personal issues to overcome and things got rocky for a bit but they make a great match. I think it is pretty obvious now after reading this book who the two remaining unmarried Sharpe siblings will end up with and I can't wait to read how it all goes down. The mystery surrounding their parents death seems to get even more mysterious and I have a feeling it won't be cleared up until the last book. In the meantime I will wait impatiently to find out what really happened that night.

Not to mention that the clash between the locals and the magical visitors leads to a series of unnatural disasters that may doom them all.

I love this series! If you haven't read the previous books then you should hold off on reading this one until you do. If read out of order you probably would have no idea what is going on or why. The first two books were excellent and this one is as well. Tammy Jo Trask and one of her love interests, Bryn Lyons are being investigated by the World Association of Magic due to events that occurred in previous books. This is not good at all. All while this is going on Tammy is being kidnapped, threatened, and harassed by some holier than thou residents in her town. These people are serious nutcases but through it all Tammy carries on...often times like nothing happened. She gets shot and calls it a scratch, she gets kidnapped then escapes and she goes on with her day like normal. She is brave (sometimes foolishly so) and resilient which I can admire in her character. One of the few things that DOES seem to manage to get under her skin is her complicated relationship with Bryn. She is torn between him and her ex-husband whom she promised to wait for to come back before she makes a decision between the two. Bryn doesn't make the waiting part easy for her though. They share a special magical synergy with each other that is rare. I find myself torn at times about who I want her to end up with. I mostly am leaning towards Bryn but sometimes he just seems a little to slick and sure of himself for my tastes. Also I occasionally wonder if his motive for wanting to be with her isn't just because he loves her but because of the incredible power he would gain by being with her. Very complicated. There are some action moments (fights, escapes, etc.) and some romance that all equal out to a great story. I don't really think it is quite as action packed as the previous books but it is still exciting to read. Duvall is kind of a wacky place if you ask me but it is so interesting. It is a small town where everyone seems to know everyone's business. The people that live there are definitely unique and really round out the story. I would love to read more about them in the future. I would also like to learn more about Tammy's family. If you enjoyed the previous books in the series you won't be let down with this one!
