Book Review: The Darkest Passion by Gena Showalter

Mass Market Paperback: 384 pages
Publisher: HQN Books (May 25, 2010)

For weeks, the immortal warrior Aeron has sensed an invisible female presence. An angel—demon-assassin—has been sent to kill him. Or has she? Olivia claims she fell from the heavens, giving up immortality because she couldn't bear to harm him. But trusting—and falling for—Olivia will endanger them all. So how has this "mortal" with the huge blue eyes already unleashed Aeron's darkest passion?

Now, with an enemy hot on his trail and his faithful demon companion determined to remove Olivia from his life, Aeron is trapped between duty and consuming desire. Worse still, a new executioner has been sent to do the job Olivia wouldn't….
..........................................................

I have really been looking forward to this story since Aeron first started to be watched by an angel. Aeron the Keeper of Wrath seems an unlikely match for an angel. He is covered in tattoos of torture and pain and has taken in a demon named Legion as his adopted daughter. Oh, and he has killed A LOT of people.
Olivia is the angel who has been watching Aeron (which by the way he does NOT like at all). She is ordered to kill him but refuses so she is sent down as a mortal. She heads straight for Aeron and needless to say trust is definitely an issue for Aeron in this relationship. I don't want to reveal too much of the story so I won't say anymore. Believe me though, this is an excellent addition to The Lords of the Underworld series. The next Lord to get his story is Gideon in The Darkest Lie (releases June 29)....I can't wait!!

5/5

I was lucky enough to read this prior to the release date through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own and have not been influenced by others.

Book Review: Evermore by Alyson Noel

Paperback: 320 pages
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin; 1 edition (February 3, 2009)

Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school—but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste…

Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking—and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn’t know who he really is—or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I kind of like the idea of it....but then parts of it really bother me.

okay so Damen and Drina are immortals.....they have been together for 600 years...HOW does Damen not suspect that Drina (who practically oozes evil) has been offing Ever all the years he keeps finding her reincarnated self. Seriously. Every time he finally finds her again she immediately dies before their relationship progresses too far. Oh, and how convenient that Drina is there. I just don't buy it. I mean, come on...how about a little suspicion please. He must know something is up because he obviously didn't like for Drina to know how much Ever meant to him. Okay, enough with the ranting because really it wasn't a bad read. Ever dealing with her "powers" and her little sister's ghost was what I enjoyed reading about the most. I actually thought that Damen was a selfish prick. He had moments where I could see that he is a good guy but at the end of it I still mainly thing he is careless and selfish. I am hoping my feeling will improve about Damen in the next book.

Book Review: Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Hardcover: 736 pages
Publisher: St. Martin's Press; 1ST edition (August 5, 2008)

Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. However, his human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, Acheron became the sole defender of mankind.

Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he’ll do anything to keep concealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.

Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.

War has never been more deadly... or more fun.

......................................................

WARNING: This review is basically me gushing about how awesomely awesome this book is....just so you know.

According to Sherrilyn Kenyon's site, Acheron is book #16 in the Dark-Hunters series (because it also includes the Dream-Hunter series), but Amazon has it as book #12 (without the Dream-Hunter series included). In order to really enjoy this book you really do need to read the previous books. Don't worry though because they were all enjoyable (there were maybe 2 that I wasn't crazy about, but they weren't bad). Okay, so like MANY readers of this series my favorite character by far is Acheron...the leader of the Dark-Hunters. He is full of compassion and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders....what's not to love? In previous books in the series we get glimpses of who he is, his motivations, and his past. Not much, but enough to give us an idea of who he is and enough to fall in love with him. This book reveals all of his past. All the pain, suffering, and humiliations are revealed. It will blow you away. The book is broken down into parts: The past and the present. Part of the past is as written by his sister which I found extremely interesting. The book itself looks like an encyclopedia...seriously, it is really thick, but I breezed through it because I could not put it down. Hands down one of the best books I have read in my life! If you haven't read the Dark-Hunters series yet DO IT because Acheron is a book that need to be read.
