Book Review: Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Hardcover: 736 pages
Publisher: St. Martin's Press; 1ST edition (August 5, 2008)

Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. However, his human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, Acheron became the sole defender of mankind.

Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he’ll do anything to keep concealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.

Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.

War has never been more deadly... or more fun.

WARNING: This review is basically me gushing about how awesomely awesome this book is....just so you know.

According to Sherrilyn Kenyon's site, Acheron is book #16 in the Dark-Hunters series (because it also includes the Dream-Hunter series), but Amazon has it as book #12 (without the Dream-Hunter series included). In order to really enjoy this book you really do need to read the previous books. Don't worry though because they were all enjoyable (there were maybe 2 that I wasn't crazy about, but they weren't bad). Okay, so like MANY readers of this series my favorite character by far is Acheron...the leader of the Dark-Hunters. He is full of compassion and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders....what's not to love? In previous books in the series we get glimpses of who he is, his motivations, and his past. Not much, but enough to give us an idea of who he is and enough to fall in love with him. This book reveals all of his past. All the pain, suffering, and humiliations are revealed. It will blow you away. The book is broken down into parts: The past and the present. Part of the past is as written by his sister which I found extremely interesting. The book itself looks like an encyclopedia...seriously, it is really thick, but I breezed through it because I could not put it down. Hands down one of the best books I have read in my life! If you haven't read the Dark-Hunters series yet DO IT because Acheron is a book that need to be read.

5/5

Great warning label. I actually really enjoyed Arch's book but it wasn't my favorite in the series. It was however close to the top :) I am so counting down to Nick's story(s)!
