Interview and Giveaway with Rachel Hawkins

Rachel Hawkins is the author of a great YA series about a girl named Sophie who is sent to a reform school for teens with powers (witches, vampires, shifters, etc.). When I read the first book, Hex Hall, I immediately fell in love with it. I was very excited to have the opportunity to review Rachel's second book in the series, Demonglass, which was just released on March 1st. My love for the series continues and I can't wait for the next book to come out! I was very fortunate that I was able to do a Q&A with Rachel, and here it is!

1) If you were to write a spin-off of the Hex Hall series, which character would you write about?

Well, I actually AM writing a spin-off of the Hex Hall series! :) And while I can't give too much away, I will say that the character is someone we don't meet until Book 3, and that she comes from a very different background that Sophie. Let's just say Prodigium aren't her favorite thing.

2) Would you rather be a demon, witch, vampire, or shapeshifter?

Oooh.... all 3 have advantages and drawbacks! I think I'd go with demon. Vamps can't go out in the sun (unless they have a bloodstone, obviously), and shifters have the Hair Issue. Sure, as a demon, I might freak out and destroy the world, but that's a risk I'm willing to take!

3) Sophie's best friend Jenna is a fanatic for the color pink, is that your favorite color too?

It soooo is, haha! I'd have an entirely pink bedroom if my husband didn't have to sleep in there, too!

4) What character has been the most difficult to write about?

Cal is always tough for me because he's so stoic and plays thing so close to the chest. There were so many times I wanted to give him a witty comeback and had to remind myself that no, Cal doesn't quip. I think he's tough because of all the characters, he's the furthest one from me.

5) What character has been the easiest or most fun to write about?

Sophie and Archer tie for that one! I think that's why I like writing them together so much. Their back and forth banter is so easy (and fun!) to write.

Thank you Rachel for taking the time to answer my questions!

I would want to be a Vampire, because who wouldn't want to be immortal and travel the world and see everything you would ever want to see.
Plus I thought Hex Hall was super cute and I can't wait to read the sequel!

I think I would right to be a shifter because I have always wondered how much more free I would fell in animal form. Animals are always just so happy and carefree I tend to envy them.

A demon could be a ton of fun, but I don't know if I could be that evil, so I will say a witch so I could do magic.

I haven't read this series yet but it looks like an exciting one.
If I had my pick I would be a witch. There is just something exciting and a bit dangerous about having magic at your finger tips and being able to cast spells.

I would choose to be a vampire. To love forever and have unsurpassed beauty, grace and no dieting. Sure its shallow... but I can admit the appeal ;)

I loved the first book! The snarky sense of humor was the best! There were some funny lines and I'm looking forward to the next book. Thanks for the giveaway! :)

I'm gonna god with shifter. As long as I have control over when I shift. The other options don't seem to offer that control.

I love the characters. I want Sophie to be MY bff!! It's rare that I laugh out loud while reading books, but Hex Hall and Demonglass had me giggling nonstop :)

Oh and I would totally want to be a demon. What's not to love about a sometimes uncontrollable power? Think of all the fun it could be! :D

Okay, I have to admit. I haven't read this series yet, so I would LOVE to enter for this giveaway. :) THis series sounds amazing and I've heard of a few young adults (friends daughter and her friend) how have read HexHall and had nothing but great things to say. So I'm going to have to get it. ;)

I think if I had to pick one I would be a witch. :) To be able to do magic and weave spells that could help me through the day, and read faster. ;D

Thank you!!!

I love this series. I think what I like best is how Rachel manages to keep comedy in the story even when there is a situation far from funny.

I actually haven't read this series, but have been dying to get ahold of it. I would choose to be a witch, just the thought of having all the power at your fingertips makes me giddy. I could have so much and be so devious!

If I had a choice, I'd be a shifter, some furry feline one. Wouldn't want the fleas though.

I would probably choose shifter because I have always felt close to animals and my hope would be that I could communicate with them.
