I am a person who HAS to finish a book once I have picked it up...even if I hate it. Today the unthinkable happened. I have given up on a book. I have been reading this book for maybe 4 days (or more) and I have only made it 152 pages in. I have finally admitted defeat...I just can't subject myself to this book anymore. What book am I talking about? Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse by Kaleb Nation. I can't really give a review since I didn't finish but I do have some things I have to say:
It is not unusual for authors to borrow ideas from each others work, but come on...seriously? There are so many blatant rip offs of Harry Potter in the book. I knew going in that it was going to be Harry Potter-esque and I was okay with that...even looking forward to it. But this goes beyond that and it ruined the book for me. The plot moves sooooooo sloooooooowly. 152 pages in and not much has happened and I feel no connection with any of the characters. I could go on with more but I don't want it to turn into more of a free for all bashing. I mean, maybe it gets good..eventually? I don't know....I DO know that I have read some terrible books so it speaks volumes that I couldn't even force myself to read it. This makes me sad....

I feel you, I'm just like that. I have trouble putting a book down even if I hate it--which is why I'm proud if I do give up before it's too late. Who knows how many hours I've wasted reading books I don't enjoy...lol.
I haven't read Bran Hambric but that's too bad that you didn't like it. *huggles*
It gets better. Plus, you have to give the author a break. He hasn't even read Harry Potter. Hard to believe, but it's true. His mom never let him (he was homeschooled), and now he's too busy to read them.
